Palos Heights Holding Off On Gambling Law Draft (Live Blog Transcript)

Palos Heights aldermen put off voting on seeing what a gambling law would look like in a draft form, at least until July. Read our live blog transcript of Tuesday night's meeting.

Update

The Palos Heights City Council agreed Tuesday night to hold off voting on a request for the city attorney to draft a gambling ordinance for their perusal.

The decision came after nine people spoke in front of the council, offering differing views on whether the city should move forward with any form of gambling legislation or not.

Read the live blog transcript above for a recap on what the nine speakers offered.

Mayor Bob Straz said after Tuesday night's meeting that the motion will come back up at a July meeting, and that the additional time will be used to answer more questions about implementing a gambling law, should the council vote in favor of doing so.

"There are some things we still have to address somewhere down the road as far as hours, signage things like that," Straz said. "This gives us some time to talk to people and start talking about these things. Even tonight I thought drafting an ordinance was premature because we haven't talked about the specifics of the ordinance and what would be in the ordinance."

Straz said since the ordinance was differed it will come up again for a vote at the council's next meeting on July 2, but other council decisions will be needed before anything is final in regard to gambling.
