Palos Heights' Paul Vallas Takes Job With Connecticut School District

Paul Vallas, former CEO of the Chicago Public Schools, has accepted a post with the Bridgeport, Conn. school district.

Former Chicago Public School CEO and former Illinois gubernatorial candidate Paul Vallas has accepted a position as interim superintendent in Bridgeport, Conn.

Vallas, whose family lives in Palos Heights, lost the 2002 gubernatorial primary to eventual winner Rod Blagojevich. He then took posts leading the public school systems in Philadelphia and post-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans.

Vallas has also spent time working to rebuild the education system in Haiti following that country's devastating earthquake in 2010.

According to the Connecticut Post, his new position in the state's largest city is expected to last up to one year.

Vallas' wife and sons have lived in Palos Heights for several years. His wife, Sharon Vallas, is the daughter of former Mayor Dean Koldenhoven.
