Police: Tech-savvy Palos Heights Homeowner Busts Burglars In The Act

Palos Heights police were able to apprehend two alleged home burglars after a homeowner observed the pair in his home on a security camera phone app.

Police say that two burglars were caught red-handed in the early morning hours at a Palos Heights home on Tuesday.

At about 1:15 a.m. police were called to the 3900 block of Spyglass Circle in Palos Heights after a homeowner using a mobile security device app installed on a phone was able to view security camera footage of the residence, police said.

The homeowner, who was not home, saw two males on his security camera enter the home and immediately called police.

Officers arrived at the home and set up a perimeter and knew the two men were still inside the home based on the live streaming surveillance video, police said.

Assisting the Palos Heights officers was the Palos Hills K-9 "Wolf" and officers from neighborhing agencies, police said. The two men inside the house were both taken into custody without incident, police said.

The men arrested at the scene were Martel Curtis, 21, of the 12200 block of S. Normal in Chicago, and Darnell Blackwell, 26, of the 360 block of E. 88th in Chicago. The men were each charged with one count of residential burglary.
