Palos Heights and Palos Park Police Run for Special Olympics

For the past 15 years, members of the two departments have run in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics to raise money for the effort.

Officers and personnel from the Palos Park and Palos Heights police departments took to the streets in June to raise money for the Special Olympics.

For the last 15 years, personnel from the two departments ran in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics, according to Palos Heights Police Officer George Drikos.

Just over a dozen runners ran the approximate 11.5 mile route starting at 119th Street and Harlem Avenue, south on Harlem to 159th Street and west on 159th Street from to LaGrange Road. From there they continued south on LaGrange Road to near the Texas Roadhouse restaurant south of 179th Street.

The effort raised $7,500 for the Special Olympics. 

The 2013 participants are: George Drikos, William Czajkowski, Janet Czajkowski, Monica Czajkowski, Matthew Howe, Mallory Lampasona, Kelly Gorney, Brian Apostal, Joey Kirkwood, Ross Ricobene, Kevin Apostal, Fran Dewan, Brian Flynn, and Darcy Birkmeier (in front).
