Frank, don't you think it time the kids left home and lived on their own?

Unfortunately what most of us are doing to reduce health costs is not having things taken care of. As an aside, I was recently told I should have 2 tests done to check my heart, etc. When I called the hospital to schedule I was told it would cost me $2300 after insurance pays their portion. That does not include the costs of the person reading the tests or performing the tests, etc. I learned this in the past when the other bills come rolling in. I make less than $20,000 a year. I pay close to $700 a month for insurance since I can't get it at work. My alternative. I am not having the tests done and will deal with what may happen or not. Am I scared? You bet!

Thanks for the reply Chuck. In talking to my own doctor he was telling me how little he is paid from HMO's and perhaps PPO's ( I don't recall). I don't think people understand that the huge bills that they often are stuck paying does not go totally into the doctor's pocket. I see the office expense, etc., but also understand the somewhat, what little insurance is really paying the doctor. All the same, it keeps people like me, a widow on a tight budget, from getting needed tests done as well as treatment as you mentioned in your first note. In a country like the USA, that is not only a shame, it is a crime. Many people of the middle class, not only those on welfare, are not getting the medical care that we need. I have hope that this Obama bill will help us all to be a healthier country. We won't know until we give it a try.

Thank you for clearing things up concerning this subject. I think most of the population have not been able to full grasp what it meant. You put things in simple, easy to understand terms. Years ago when they first proposed HMO's, etc. , my father, a long time small town doctor predicted HUGH problems. He retired earlier than he expected, after more than 50 years of practice, because of the paperwork bogging him down. We discovered after he died, that for the last 2 years of his life he did not charge his patients (he refused to take any new ones at that time) as it was easier just to treat them without being told how to practice medicine.

Whoa! Interesting reading above. I have lived in Glenwood over 35 years, am white and have neighbors of all colors and backgrounds. My neighbors are all law-biding, good neighbors, with great kids who play outside like mine did, go to school and get good grades, like mine did, and so forth. Their homes and yards are well maintained and when my husband was ill and dying, they pitched in and helped keep my home and yard safe and well taken care of. That being said, if you feel that there are problems, and I admit that there are problems in Glenwood, as well as the rest of the country, stand up and do something about it. My neighbors enforce neighbor watch as well as know what is happening with their own children. If we want safer neighborhoods, better schools, etc. it is up to the people living within the area to make sure theses things happen. Get involved. When my children were growing up, my husband and I were active parts of the community. Don't expect someone else to make the changes - get out and offer a hand. My husband and I were responsible for mentoring several children from less than desirable home situations. It takes a village.

When will politicians learn that the public is much more forgiving when hey are honest and forthright than when they shade things and put up smokescreens?

If indeed Mr. Jackson has health issues, then say so and people will be understanding and things will fall as they fall. It is when their "people" give us a lot of hooey that we tend to become cynical and angry. I agree, if this were someone else the good Reverend Jackson and his backers would all be up in arms demanding explanations. Where are these explanations now?

As for JJ having the right to privacy...one gives that up when they enter into politics, become media mongers such as athletes and performers, and spend their lives in the limelight. You can't have it one way - only getting the attention when you want it.

I am sorry that JJ is having alcohol problems or a mood disorder. A lot of people suffer from one or the other and if he indeed has either, he could show hope to others fighting these problems if he were honest about it.

The neighbors absolutely have the right to be upset when they are trying to keep up their yards and homes and someone else is ignoring the same. It makes keeping their own yards nice, and weed and disease free, as well as brings down the value of their property.

EXCUSE ME! The man and the rest of the audience should have filed a complaint against the woman. There are clear notices given before movies to "TURN OFF YOUR PHONE". Common courtesy dictates one not talk during a movie - on or off a phone. I am sorry, but this woman must think the world revolves around her and she is so special that every day rules not apply to her. She will get no sympathy from me. Bravo for the Crete man standing up for the audience as a whole.

If you are looking for a "feel good" holiday play that is not the normal sappy stuff one usually gets at this time of year, go see this delightful play about faith, family and love.
It has the type of "miracle" one wouldn't expect to find, but is non the less truly a miracle of the season.
