SUV Crashes Through College Drive Office Building

An elderly woman drove her car into a Palos Heights office building leaving a six-by-six foot hole in the brick wall.

For the second time in less than a week a car has come crashing through a Palos Heights building.  A 73-year-old woman crashed her SUV into an office building at 7800 West College Drive, leaving a gaping hole in a brick wall measuring six feet across. The accident occured at about 9:30 p.m. Monday night, but was not discovered until 7 a.m. Tuesday morning when an employee arrived for work, said Palos Heights Officer George Drikos. The damage was to a suite occupied by Quest Diagnostics.  The woman turned into the parking lot after becoming disoriented and drove her car into the southwest corner of the building. Like I said before. The elderly need to be more closely supervised as to weather they are abel to drive . Disorientated, come on she left the seen of a hit and run and made it home. She was not that mixed up. The elderly need to follow the same rules of the road that the rest of us do.That was a hit and run. If a teen driver did that they would have been arrested and taken down to the station.   more ›

SUNDAY, MAY 13  Larry Simpson, 61, of the 1100 block of Mason in Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence and driving without insurance. He was stopped at 11:23 a.m. for crossing lane lines, police said. Palos Heights Police Blotter: Twice the Limit DUI, Theft at Jewel

Palos Heights police reports, April 30 to May 6.

SUNDAY, MAY 6 A woman described as being in her early 20s with long blond hair stole several items from Jewel, 7100 W. 127th Street, police said. She was standing at the camera counter and began removing items when she was approached by an employee. She pushed the employee who fell to the ground and ran out of the store, police said. Peter Adamski, 27, of the 13600 block of Dublin Road in Homer Glen, was charged with drunken driving and criminal damage to property. He was observed driving 76 mph in a 40 mph zone and was following several cars too closely, police said. He failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest, police said. Buckle Up! Click It or Ticket Campaign Begins Today

Local police departments are taking part in a campaign that is intended to enforce seatbelt laws across Illinois

Area police departments are coordinating their efforts as part of a campaign to enforce seat belt laws in Illinois.  The program, dubbed "Click It or Ticket," begins Friday, May 11 and lasts through Memorial Day weekend.  During Memorial Day weekend of 2011, 13 fatalities and more than 700 injuries were reported on state roadways, police said. Six of those fatalaties were related to alcohol use.   It is estimated that in 2012, safety bealts saved 12,546 lives on U.S. roads, according to a news release. Both the Palos Heights and Palos Park police departments have announced their participation in the program.  For more information, visit www.buckleupillinois.org.

MONDAY, APRIL 30 William E. Erickson, 36, of the 11500 block of Natchez Avenue in Worth was charged with driving under the influence (DUI), driving on a suspended license and speeding. Police said Erickson failed field sobriety tests after his car was stopped in the 11900 block of Harlem Avenue around 2:30 a.m. SUNDAY, APRIL 29 Justin A. Weiss, 35, of the 11500 block of Joalyce Drive in Alsip was charged with DUI, operation of uninsured motor vehicle and failure to wear seat belt. SATURDAY, APRIL 21 Nikola Ostojic, 38, of the 12900 block of Forestview Road, was charged with driving under the influence. He was stopped at 4:53 a.m. and failed a field sobriety test, police said. A breath test revealed a blood alcohol level of .143, police said. Trevor King, 33, of the 5000 block of 171st Street in Tinley Park, was charged with drunken driving. He was stopped at 1:50 a.m. for doing 55 miles per hour in a 35 zone, police said. SUNDAY, APRIL 15 Joseph Schadt, 33, of the 9200 block of Massasoit Avenue in Oak Lawn, was charged with driving under the influence. He was stopped at 3:32 a.m. for speeding and failed a field sobriety tests and a breath test, police said.  Ralph Wojcik, 37, of the 7400 block of 162nd Street in Tinley Park, was charged with driving under the influence and operating an uninsured vehicle. SUNDAY, APRIL 8 Robert Antonelli, 19, of 5500 block of Crestwood Drive in Crestwood, was charged with possession of cannabis and drug paraphernalia, driving on a suspended license and driving without insurance. Antonelli was stopped at 3:37 p.m. for an equipment violation and during a search of his car hashish was found, police said. SUNDAY, APRIL 1 Amber R. McGowan, 31, of the 2400 block of 183rd Street in Homewood was charged with driving under the influence (DUI), driving with BAC greater than 0.08, improper lane usage and speeding. Police said McGowan failed field sobriety and breath tests after stopping her car in the 12200 block of Harlem Avenue around 2 a.m. for drifting between lanes and traveling 49 in 35 mph zone.
