But the Catholic elementary school in Palos Heights isn't "pepping" up for a test of athletics or to rally behind a sports team. The school is competing against about 2,500 other schools for up to $50,000 in grant money from Power A Bright Future, sponsored by Clorox. Currently, St. Alexander is in 16th place and the school working hard to climb the ranks. Less three weeks are left in the competition. Voting closes Dec. 19. What Happened to St. Alexander's Sign?

The church sign on Harlem was recently demolished.

St. Alexander's sign on Harlem Avenue looks a little worse for wear. An Orland Park man was cited on Nov. 5 after his car smashed into the Catholic parish's stone sign. Police said the elderly man blacked out and didn't remember swearving off the roadway. He was taken to Palos Community Hospital for treatment. The driver was cited for driving without insurance and improper lane use. Join the conversation. Like Palos Patch on Facebook and sign up for the breaking news alerts!
