Palos Heights police reports, Dec. 5-9.
WEDNESDAY, DEC. 5 Magdalena K. Pomorska, 29, of the 10600 block of South Southwest Highway in Worth, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a license, driving without insurance, illegally transporting alcohol and speeding, according to a report. Police stopped a vehicle that was reportedly speeding at about 1:57 a.m. near 11900 S. Harlem Ave. The driver, Pomorska, allegedly failed sobriety tests. She was booked and given a $3,000 bond. "Slow down. See what you're missing." These are words of advice from one Palos Patch reader to area speeders.
We've all been guilty of it at one time or another. You're traveling down a road you've been on a thousand times before and your foot gets a little heavy on the gas pedal. Or you're late for work and figure keeping pace with traffic is OK, even if it is 10 mph over the limit. It happens. But people notice when it becomes a problem. A letter recently sent to the City of Palos Heights from residents outlined a few concerns about 123rd Street near Ridgeland Avenue. An uptick in the number of speeders combined with an increase in young children playing nearby has people worried. Order of Protection Brian J. Ramirez, 39, of the 7200 block of 112th Street in Worth, was charged with unlawful violation of an order of protection. He was arrested in the 12200 block of 74th Avenue around 5:15 p.m. for violating “the parameters of an order of protection,” according to the report. Police gave no specific information about the alleged offense but said he was denied bond and held for a court hearing the next morning. Over the Limit Jorge Arreola, 28, of the 7300 block of 62nd Street in Summit, was charged with DUI and speeding. Police said they stopped McCarthy’s car in the 13300 block of Harlem Avenue around 4:15 a.m. after he was seen driving 54 mph in a 35-mph zone. Red Light, Red Face Nael Ali, 22, of the 15200 block of Catalina Drive in Orland Park, was charged with DUI, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and disobeying a traffic signal. Police said Kyle Trokey was traveling too fast when his vehicle skidded on ice, jumped a curb and hit a parked car in a gas station parking lot, injuring two people.
Palos Heights police charged an Orland Park juvenile as an adult this weekend after he accidentally struck a parked car in a gas station parking lot and injured two individuals. A police officer patrolling South Harlem Avenue around 12:05 a.m. Sunday said he saw a car speeding southbound with only one headlight, but failed to catch its speed on his radar. The same officer was unable to stop the car before it quickly turned west on 127th Street. The car then skidded out on ice, jumped a curb and bushes, and struck the passenger side of a parked in the BP Amoco parking lot at 12700 S. Harlem Ave., police said. Try living on 76th Ave! The speed limit is 20 mpg. What a joke. I have been hear 20 years and have voiced my complaints so many times, called the police ect. When the little kids from Palos East are walking to and from school the cars do not even slow down. They just swerve around the littel cherubs. The speed trailer with the flashing speed limit, does not give speeding tickets nor does it alert…   more ›
