Patch Participates in National Moment of Silence at 8:30 a.m. Friday

Your local Patch site will go dark during national observance for victims of the Sandy Hook tragedy.

Patch sites around America, including yours, will take part in a National Moment of Silence at 8:30 a.m. Central time on Friday. At that hour, the website will go blank for 5 minutes. The page will be replaced by a message noting the National Moment of Silence, and a link will direct viewers to a website that explains ways you can join the campaign to help the people of Sandy Hook. The Moment of Silence coincides with one across social media sites. Over 100,000 people have pledged not to tweet or post to Facebook, reports TechCrunch, including Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, Britney Spears, Suze Orman, Tyler Florence, Goldie Hawn, and Joe Montana. After 5 minutes, the website operation will return to normal.  Looking for ways to help the …

Then He looked down on earth, the world far below. He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow and woe. He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand, "Let My power and presence re-enter this land"! "may this country be delivered from the hands of fools". "I'm taking back my nation. I'm taking back my schools"! Then He and the children stood up without a sound. "Come now my children, let me show you …   more ›

Patch.com Witnesses Record Growth

May was the platform’s most successful month to date, with nearly 12 million users and record-breaking revenue. And, we launched four new sites in suburban Chicago.

One of the reasons we love working at Patch is the reaction from our audience to the coverage and conversation across the local Patch network. We are so focused on the local scene that we don't often share the good news of Patch itself, still a toddler of a company that's growing by leaps and bounds. Monday, we put out a press release about some of the growth we've seen: Patch, AOL’s platform of local news, information and engagement sites, announced Monday, June 10, that May of 2012 was its most successful traffic and revenue period in the company’s history.  Patch served a record 11.7 million users in May (comScore), representing a 14% increase over April (10.3 million users) and an 11% increase over its previous traffic record (10.6 …

Palos Patch Celebrates 1st Anniversary

It seems like only yesterday . . .

Dear Palos Patch Readers, It’s official: Palos Patch has hit the one-year mark. Honestly, the past 12 months have flown past. When I look back on the variety of stories we have posted in the past year, I am amazed not only by our work but by the vibrancy of the community we cover. There are many perks to this job that far outweigh the sometimes long days I spend in front of a computer screen. The most prominent one is that a large part of my job involves meeting and talking to interesting people who are doing amazing things. From high school students dedicating themselves to helping others, to local volunteers who devote countless hours to making their community a better place to live, I get to hear their experiences and tell their stories…

Meet Palos Patch's Two New Columnists

Introducing Cassidy Novak and Jordan Huenink.

Here at Palos Patch I am always trying to keep things fresh. From the types of stories we cover, to how we go about covering them. A major goal of this site is offering a forum for locals to voice their opinions and share their experiences. With the advent of our blogging section we are able to offer a place for local experts to share their opinions on a variety of topics. Today I have the great pleasure of introducing two new contributors to the site. They each have filed their first stories and we will be seeing much more of them in the future. Our new parenting columnist is Cassidy Novak. This Palos Park mom brings a unique perspective and a desire to share with you tips and stories from local parenting experts. Cassidy is the mother of…
