Palos Heights Replaces Fired Building Head
William Hayes, who was named interim building commissioner after James Dougherty was let go, was appointed to the position permanently this week.
A permanent replacement to the Palos Heights building commissioner fired in August was approved this week. William Hayes has filled in as acting head of the building department since James Dougherty was removed after allegations of pocketing money paid for fees and fines surfaced. The City of Palos Heights council made him the official commissioner during Tuesday's meeting. Hayes' permanent placement still leaves the department with fewer people in the department had under Dougherty, said Mayor Bob Straz. An assistant in the building department also was let go along with Dougherty. Building has been slow out here in Palos Heights since 2008 Mayor. The previous building inspector did not need an assistant nor will this one. The last guy had too much time on his hands and look at the trouble and embarasment he casued his position. Too many employees not a good thing unless really needed and in the budget!   more ›
