The annual soccer tournament was held this past weekend.
The local youth soccer organization held its annual tournament over the weekend: PALOS AYSO held their Annual Soccer Tournament this past Saturday and Sunday, at the Palos West School soccer fields. More than 2,000 parents and kids were in attendance. PALOS AYSO would like to thank all of the players for all of their good sportsmanship, dedication, and commitment that they have all showed throughout the season. AYSO would also like to thank all of the volunteers that have made this season such a great success. A special thanks goes out to The Palos Patch for their strong support with publicity of the games throughout the season. Submitted by Palos AYSO Soccer Palos AYSO Soccer held its opening day on Aug. 25. All games were played at at Palos West School. More than 570 players were in high spirits and kept the fans engaged. Green Lightening 7, Yellow Lightening 8 It was a high scoring game for both Lightening teams. The Green Lightening top scorer was Quinn Richards with 5 goals. Ethan Wilson and Maddie Meehan each contributed a goal as well. Joel Droesch exhibited great goalie skills while Daniel Fitzpatrick showed hustle on both offense and defense. The Yellow Lightening goal count was led by Justin Lang with 7 goals. Aiden Wright has a goal as well. Each Yellow Lightening player showed off their skills in various positions. Blue Lightning 3, Neon Knights 0 Despite the efforts of the Neon Knights, the Blue Lightning prevailed. Quinn Richards scored two goals and Conor O'Mara brought the tally to three. White Fire 5, Green Thunder 3 It was a close game between the White Fire and the Green Thunder. Erin Helsdingen, Charlie Kalousek, Caitlin Stokes and Owen Donegan put up an amazing defense. Danny Ellsworth scored three goals with assists from Erin Helsdingen and Christian Chavez. Andrew Hoefler also brought in two goals. Blue Thunder 1, The Cheetahs 0 It was a close game for the Blue Thunder and the Cheetahs ending in the Blue Thunder's first win. The game's only goal was scored by A.J. Dix. The Cheetahs' Matthew Anton had impressive goal tending. Ryan Farkas and Ben Solecki worked well together on the defensive side. White Fire 1, Green Lightening 1 A hard fought game ended in a tie for the White Fire and the Green Lightening. Christian Chavez scored a goal. Palos AYSO kicked off their 22nd season of youth soccer on Aug. 27 with games at Palos West School. Every week during the season Patch will be bringing you the results and standout players. Blue Lightning 5, The Sharks 0 Conor O’Mara and Quinn Richards were the offensive leaders for the Blue Lightning with two goals each. Matt Gilhooly also contributed to the goal total. Richards, Gilhooly, Kol Shields and Owen McGovern kept the shutout alive with their work in the net. Green Thunder 1, Blue Thunder 0 Lenny Kobilca was the lone goal scorer of the game.
