The new fast-food restaurant features a contemporary interior design with a traditional exterior.
It didn't take long for a crowd to gather Tuesday morning inside the new Wendy's restaurant on Harlem Avenue. By noon, a lunch rush had already descended on the fast-food restaurant during its first full day open to the public. Some diners who sat down for lunch were glad to see the national chain come to town. The location features a more contemporary design inside with an exterior similar to other traditional locations. "This is upgraded," said Duaa Huseen, 14, of Tinley Park. "I like it." Wendy's ranks among her favorite fast-food joints and was excited to see the new spot, which features a flat-screen television, touch-screen soda dispensers and modern decor. The well-known Palos Hills sub shop is branching out.
Peppo’s Dili-Deli, a popular sub shop since 1976 in Palos Hills, is coming to 6905 W. 159th St. in Tinley Park. “We’re hoping to be open in early October,” said Robert Peplowski, 28, a partner in the business and the son of its founder, Jim Peplowski. Both men live in New Lenox. “We’ll have the same menu as the Palos Hills location,” said Peplowski, who added that the sub shop might have additional expansion plans in mind. “If it works out in Tinley, we’ll open more,” he said. “We’ll continue to move south.” The Tinley location will employ about 10 people, Peplowski said. “We’re now taking applications online.” For information, call 708-237-1755 or visit online at Peppo’s Dili-Deli or check out the sub shop's Facebook page. A look at what new business are setting up shop in town.
It appears Palos Heights is experiencing a bit of a pizza renaissance of late. Two new pizzerias will be opening their doors soon and will join an already expanded roster of local joints. The City Council granted a liquor license to Mid Villa Pizza of Palos at Tuesday's meeting. The restaurant is set to open at 12226 S. Harlem Avenue. This will be the second location for the pizzeria which has operated on 147th Street in Midlothian for over 40 years. The shop's owner, Michael Byrnes, says that the new restaurant will have five to six booths and several tables. In addition to pizza, pasta and sandwiches they will also serve beer and wine. Al's sets up shop in Palos Height's Westgate Commons, purchasing Primo's Palos Pizza and bringing 50 years of famous pizza to the area.
Although the Palos Heights location is coming up on just its second week, Al's Pizzeria is no newcomer to pie slinging and sandwich stuffing. Domenick and Wendy LoCascio recently purchased Primo's Palos Pizza in the Westgate Valley Commons, bringing Domenick's grandfather's restaurant to the south suburbs. Al's Pizzeria has been operating in Cicero for close to 50 years, and is a local favorite when it comes to pizza. The husband and wife team hope the pizza parlor's historical success will repeat in Palos Heights, even in a location that might seem a little cursed. “We're are the third pizza place in this location,” Domenick said. “But we are hoping to be the last.” Domenick says that all the recipes are “grandma's” and that he has been …
