UPDATE: Sandburg's Brandon Torres is Patch MVP

Sandburg's Brandon Torres outpolled 11 others in voting for Southland Patch's MVP, Jan. 7-13. He is now eligible for Patch Athlete of the Month honors.

UPDATE: And the Winner in Voting for Patch Athlete of the Week is ...

Oak Forest's Courtney Kachlik busted loose in a career-high scoring performance in the championship game of the Evergreen Park Class 3A Regional. Then, she outpolled five others in voting for Patch Athlete of the Week honors.

Oak Forest's Courtney Kachlik outpolled five others in voting for Patch's Athlete of the Week, Feb. 12-18. Now, she is eligible for February Patch Athlete of the Month recognition. The candidates: Jubril Adekoya, junior, center/forward, boys basketball, Andrew. Adekoya delivered two more double-doubles as the T-Bolts notched victories No. 20 and 21 and became the winningest Andrew boys basketball team since 1989-90. Adekoya had 18 points and 16 rebounds in a 53-43 victory over Sandburg. Then, he followed up with 19 points and nine rebounds in a 58-31 victory over Thornridge. Mark Duda, sophomore, wrestling, Marist. Duda won 3-of-4 matches and placed second in the 113-pound weight class in the Class 3A state tournament at Assembly Hall in …

UPDATE: The Winner in Patch Athlete of the Week Voting is ...

Stagg's Brett Kaiser made 9-of-10 free throws and scored 21 points in the Chargers' 59-52 victory over Oak Lawn. He captured the lion's share of fan votes, too, in polling for Patch Athlete of the Week honors.

Stagg boys basketball standout Brett Kaiser outpolled five others in voting for Patch Athlete of the Week, Jan. 15-21. He is now eligible for January Patch Athlete of the Month recognition. The candidates were:   Donnie Bell, junior, wrestling, Homewood-Flossmoor. Bell won 2-of-3 matches and placed second in the 195-pound weight class at the Southwest Suburban Conference tournament. Included was a 2-1 overtime decision over Thornton’s Josh Dixon. Bell pushed his record to 32-4. Brett Kaiser, senior, guard, boys basketball, Stagg. Wrestling: Sandburg Rules Roost at Southwest Suburban Conference Tournament

Sandburg had four individual champions and 13 placewinners en route to winning the unofficial title in the Southwest Suburban Conference wrestling tournament Saturday at Joliet Central.

Bolingbrook's Campos Wins Title at Stagg Invite

Langenderfer leads Lincoln-Way East to second-place finish; Romeoville's Hardy rules at 112, while Andrew picks up championships from Ferguson and Chojnowski.

A year ago, Frankie Campos used a championship in the Stagg Invite to help him kick off a season in which he finished sixth at the IHSA state wrestling finals. Following Saturday's competition in the same tournament, the Bolingbrook senior wrestler hopes that a second title will translate into even more success. Campos followed up on his title at 112 from a year ago by taking top honors at 119 to help the Raiders to a third-place showing with 144.5 points. In the championship match at 119, Campos defeated Bradley-Bourbonnais' Jacob Iguartua with a technical fall by a 20-5 score. "Coming into the tournament, I was a little nervous about wrestling at 119 against some kids who are bigger than me," Campos said. "But when I saw they weren't as …
