More Home Burglaries Reported in Palos Heights

Police issued a community alert for three incidents that have hit houses in town since Dec. 12.

Residents have reported three separate home burglaries since December, police said this week. Burglars forced their way in through back doors, stealing jewelry from people's bedrooms, according to a community alert posted to the City of Palos Heights website. “We’re just trying to make people aware that if they do see anything out of the ordinary, to look out for themselves and for their neighbors," said Palos Heights Deputy Chief Dave Delany. Two Gang Members Charged in Connection with Palos Home Burglaries: Police

Gangster Disciples are operating a burglary operation in the suburbs, police say.

Two Chicago men believed to a part of a gang-related string of suburban burglaries, including at least three in Palos Heights, were charged Thursday. Tyrone Hughes, 22, of the 4100 block of South Prairie and Christopher J. Carter, 20, of the 600 block of block of West Vermont are charged with possession of stolen property. Additional charges of residential burglary and unlawful use of a weapon are pending, police said. The two men are suspected in Palos Heights burglaries from Sept. 13 and Oct. 1, said Palos Heights Detective Tim Holder. Longer nights and the holidays means residents should heed the advice of local police on how to prevent home burglaries. The Palos Heights Police Department provided tips for how to prevent burglaries this season. Break-ins are not just a nighttime activity. Reporting anything unusual or suspicious regardless of the time of day is key to prevention. Strangers who come to the door saying like they have the wrong address also can be trouble.
