Palos Heights Man Bloodies Nose, Leaves Scene After Hitting Hydrant: Police

Michael H. Michalik, 25, was leaving the scene of an accident and driving without insurance after his car was found crashed into a fire hydrant in a vacant lot on 191st Street, according to Mokena police.

Michael H. Michalik, 25, of the 12100 block of South 70th Court in Palos Heights, was charged with for leaving the scene of an accident and driving without insurance Sept. 9. Police went to a vacant lot in the 10200 block of West 191st Street at 11:55 p.m. on Sept. 8 after a report of an accident, in which Michalik's black 2001 Jeep Cherokee had hit a fire hydrant and water pipe. According to the police report, there was nobody near the car when police arrived, but there were signs of recent damage to the front windshield from the inside with no airbag deployment, indicating that the driver, who had left the scene, might have sustained head injuries. Men Face DUI, Other Charges After Leaving Scene of Accident

Woman whose car is hit follows other driver until police catch up in Palos Heights.

Two men face charges for switching places in the driver's seat after leaving the scene of an accident on Dec. 11, reports said. Peter Rodriguez, 44, of Tinley Park was charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident and permitting an intoxicated person to drive. Palos Heights police charged Kristopher Zitta, 22, of Peotone, for driving with a suspended license and driving under the influence. Oak Lawn police drove to 95th Street and Melvina Avenue after a woman called to say her car had been rear-ended by another car around 7:30 p.m. Police said the woman followed men’s car and saw both men get out and switch places after the accident. SUNDAY, DEC. 18 Irvin Francia, 23, of the 5700 block of 89th Street in Oak Lawn, was charged with driving under the influence and speeding. Police said Francia failed field sobriety and breath tests after stopping his car in the 11900 block of Harlem Avenue around 3 a.m. for driving 67 in a 35 mph zone. SATURDAY, DEC. 17 Jennifer L. Garrity, 37, of the 15300 block of Sequoia Street in Oak Forest, was charged with DUI, improper lane usage and disobeyed red light. Updated Dec. 2, 2011 SATURDAY, SEPT. 24 Michael Kimery, 28, of the 15600 block of Laramie in Oak Forest, was charged with leaving the scene of a property damage crash, failure to yield from private driveway, reckless driving and two counts of battery. Police said Kimery was in the parking lot at Trio, 11845 Southwest Hwy., around 11:45 p.m. when he punched two men with keys in his closed fist. Police noted lacerations below one man’s eye and on the other man’s chin and head. According to the report, Kimery struck another car while he was fleeing the parking lot. MONDAY, AUG. 29 Karen E. Walton, 48, of the 6000 block of 128th Street in Palos Heights, was charged with leaving the scene of a property damage accident and failure to reduce speed to avoid accident. Police officers arrested Walton at her home around 1 p.m. after a witness provided a license plate number and told them that a car had struck another car from behind near 135th Street and Spyglass Circle and fled. No injuries were reported. Sean P. Geraghty, 19, of the 7300 block of Pueblo Lane in Palos Heights, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
