Well John Paul and yourself do go out of your way to tell us how many degrees you have and all of the wonderful things that you do for people and know. It must be that outward humility the both of you show that make you so great Bob, and Paul the exception to your own rules. I guess 75% of all people that voted can't see your greatness and your unwillingness to play ball. and here I thought it …   more ›

Other Will county districts make us look even worse. Indian Prairie 204 (Will county portion fo Naperville and Aurora) spends about $3065 less per student, has about the same percentage of low inicome kids as 230, has class sizes of 26.1 (45% HIGHER than 230) and only one admin for every 355 students, yet their average ACT is a whopping 24.2! I understand "starting somewhere." I think this young man could speak to education issues, but I find it hard to believe that someone who has not paid property taxes, would have a vested interest on behalf of myself and other tax paying citizens to see to it that every dime is responsibly. Hidden Costs Could Plague District 230

As officials examine the 2012 property tax levy, worry grows over shortfalls that might hit the district.

An Orland Park mall's property tax dispute with Cook County and declining funds from the state could cause multimillion-dollar shortfalls for District 230, officials said Thursday. The dire forecast comes as the Consolidated High School District 230 School Board adopted resolution on an estimated property tax levy that includes a $1.4 million increase over what district taxpayers were billed last year. Even with some major shifting of funds, the district needs a 1.5 percent hike for the 2012 levy to help cover costs. The estimated levy, totaling about $100 million, was approved in a 4-1 board vote Thursday night inside Victor J. Andrew High School in Tinley Park. A final levy will need board approval in December before it can be submitted …

Police: Two Women Charged in $10K Theft from D230 School Admitted to Crime

A Cook County judge found probable cause for the arrest of three women accused of stealing money from Carl Sandburg High School's cashier's office on Sept. 5.

A theft case against three women accused of stealing $10,000 cash from Carl Sandburg High School will continue after a Cook County judge found probable cause during a preliminary hearing on Monday. Police say Linda Nassar, 36, and Sally Quaraveh, 22, both of Worth, and Sabrina Yassin, 20, of Orland Park, stole the cash from the high school’s cashier’s office on Sept. 5. The women were there to register Nassar's son for school, according to a release from the Cook County State's Attorney's Office. The three women are all represented by defense attorney James I. Stepanek and are out on bond. Quaraveh was wearing a hot pink sheer shirt over black pants; Nassar was wearing light grey capri jogging pants and a black shirt; and Yassin wore a …

The District should definitely consider implementing tighter accounting controls including putting into place a checks and balances program that includes at least one full time (paid) employee in a supervisory position at all potentially high revenue events (over 5K ) to deter/prevent future fiasco's such as this.   more ›

Find the Tax Rate For Every Taxing Body in Palos

Are you wondering how much area school districts, municipalities and libraries are taxing their residents? Then you need to read this list.

By now all homeowners in Cook County should have received their property tax bills.  The following information is provided by the Cook County Clerk's Office and compares the year over year taxing rates of all local bodies. Tax rates are calculated by taking the amount of money levied by each district and the value of all taxable property within that district.  Simple enough, right? Well here is where things get a bit trickier. From the County Clerk: Each Cook County taxing body with a statutory ceiling has its levy adjusted to the maximum amount based on the statutory ceiling for the district and the previous year’s total equalized assessed value (EAV) of property plus the value of any new construction, or the current year EAV―whichever is…
