Three officers responsible for apprehending Kenneth Conley, one of two prisoners who broke out of a Chicago correctional center, will be recognized Thursday night.
Three Palos Hills officers responsible for capturing a prisoner who escaped from a downtown Chicago lockup will be honored Thursday night. Lt. Warren S. Becker, Sgt. Robert Mankowske and Officer Kevin Price will be recognized during a ceremony at 7 p.m. inside the Palos Hills City Hall, 10335 S. Roberts Road. The three officers located Kenneth Conley on Jan. 4 outside a Palos Hills apartment complex. Conley, along with Joseph "Jose" Banks, broke out of the Metropolitan Correctional Center in December. Conely, who was allegedly carrying a gun, was spotted wearing a disguise near a Palos Hill apartment complex. He fought with police and then fled before being arrested. A Palos Hills deputy chief says the officer who was hurt while attempting to apprehend an escaped bank robbery last week is off duty while he recovers.
A Palos Hills police officer hurt after confronting a prison escapee Friday night is doing off duty recovering from a torn hamstring. "He sounded good," said Palos Hills Deputy Chef James Boie. "He’s just happy that it all got resolved and this guy wasn’t still out there, running around.” Kenneth Conley, 38, was arrested Friday afternoon. Updated 8:39 p.m. A Palos Hills police lieutenant remains hospitalized after wrestling with a wanted man who escaped from a downtown Chicago correctional center in December. Kenneth Conley, 38, was arrested by officers from the Palos Hills Police Department Friday afternoon. Police say Conley was hiding out in the basement of an apartment building at 10279 86th Terrace. Conley and another man, Joseph "Jose" Banks, 37, are convicted bank robbers who authorities say managed to escape from the Metropolitan Correctional Center on Dec. 18. Authorities captured late Thursday night one of the two convicted bank robbers who escaped from a downtown prison earlier this week, the FBI reports. Joseph "Jose" Banks, 37, was arrested at about 11:30 p.m. in the 2300 block of North Bosworth Street in Chicago by members of the FBI's Violent Crimes Task Force and the Chicago Police Department, an FBI press release stated. Kenneth Conley, his cellmate and fellow escapee, is still at large, the release stated. Banks and Conley broke out of the Metropolitan Correctional Center in downtown Chicago on Tuesday, Dec. 18.
