Chicago Ridge Deputy Fire Chief Charged With Attempted Murder

Deputy fire chief faces multiple charges after police say he attacked a woman in a Tinley Park home invasion.

A Tinley Park woman was attacked in her home in the early morning hours of Saturday by a man wielding a knife. Police arrested a man matching the description of the attacker in the condominium parking lot who they identifed as Gary M. Swiercz.  Swiercz, a 49-year-old Chicago Ridge deputy fire chief, was taken into custody and charged with attempted murder, home invasion, aggravated unlawful restraint, aggravated attempted criminal sexual assault and residential burglary, police said. Police Search for Suspect in Midday Home Burglary

A Palos Park house was hit Wednesday, police said.

Police are canvassing the area for someone who robbed a Palos Park house on Wednesday. The garage door of a home in the first block of Old Creek Road was forced open, Palos Park police said. Electronics and jewelry were taken. Police said the break-in happened between 10:20 a.m. and 2 p.m. Evidence technicians are at the home. A second Palos Park house was hit less than a week ago. Police said a burglar on Nov. 8 pried off the lock on the side door of a home in the 100 block of 84th Avenue. Jewelry and other items were stolen. Like Palos Patch on Facebook.

Two Charged, Police Believe They Are On to Burglary Ring

Two men have been charged with felony burglary and police believe they are tied with a crew that could have hit as many as 25 homes.

It was a suburban team effort that led to the arrest of two men believed to be involved with a group that burglarized as many as 25 homes across the south suburbs. Palos Hills police announced Jamel Johnson, 18, of Justice, and Deaaron McCoy, 19, of Chicago, have been charged with felony residential burglary. After a string of burglaries across area suburbs, Palos Hills Police Chief Paul Madigan working with the Hickory Hills Police Department activated the Southwest Major Case Unit on July 20 to assist with the investigation of the crimes, police said.  Detectives from that unit were conducting a July 25 surveilance operation on McCoy and Johnson when they observed the pair and another suspect at a home on the 8000 block of Mobile Avenue …

Burglary Victim Speaks Out: "I Felt So Violated"

A home burglary victim recounts her experience and warns her neighbors to keep their eyes peeled.

Judy Shiels has lived in Palos Hills for 33 years. She raised her two children here and has always felt safe, never had any problems.  On July 2 that feeling changed. Her house on the 9800 block of 99th Street was burglarized. Her belongings were thrown about, her back door was smashed in.  "I felt so violated," Shiels said.  The burglars struck in the middle of the day.  "They came in through the backyard, jammed the door off the hinges and frame and went right up to the bedrooms," she said. From there they went into her bedroom and then her daughter's room. The burglars made off with all of her gold jewelry and took about $2,000 in cash. "It was devastating," she said. Hills Resident Finds Burglars In Driveway

Two Palos Hills homes were targeted in home invasions in recent weeks.

Palos Hills police are investigating two residential burglaries that occurred in town over the last two weeks.    On Thursday, July 5 at 12:15 p.m., a resident of the 11100 block of Possum Drive returned home to find his front door damaged, police said.  When he went inside he found items thrown all over his house. After surveying the damage he discovered that a laptop, cameras and jewelry were missing.  The week prior, on June 27 around 1:30 p.m., a resident of a home on the 10500 block of Kathy Court returned to a surprise. A strange car was in the driveway. Police say the resident saw three men taking a television and jug filled with coins from the house. Palos Hills Police Blotter: Solo Cups, Video Games and Hubcaps Stolen

Recent thefts and burglaries as described in Palos Hills police reports, June 21-23.

SATURDAY, JUNE 23 Hedge clippers and four hubcaps were reported stolen from a home around 1 p.m. A woman told police that she leaves the items on the side of her home and noticed them missing after a friend of a friend borrowed the clippers.  THURSDAY, JUNE 21 A male juvenile walked into Walgreens, 11053 Southwest Highway, and took a pack of solo cups without paying, police said. After store employees reported the theft police found the boy walking with the solo cups in tow. He admitted to stealing the cups, was charged with retail theft and was released to his mother, police said.  A home on the 8700 block of Surrey Park was reported burglarized. Alsip Pair Charged in Home Invasion, Thanksgiving Burglary

The Cook County State's Attorney's Office has approved charges against an Alsip couple suspected in a rash of home invasions and burglaries over the past several months.

Two Alsip residents being held in DuPage County were formally charged Thursday with home invasion and burglary for two incidents in Palos Heights in October and on Thanksgiving, said Palos Heights Police Chief Larry Yott. Mark Stanko, 26, and Tracy Denell, 28, were arrested earlier this month by Palos Heights police and members of the South Suburban Major Case Unit and the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office after a six-week investigation. On Thursday, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office approved home invasion charges in connection with an incident on Oct. 26 in the 12300 block of Pine Place and burglary charges for a Thanksgiving Day burglary in the 12400 block of 71st Avenue. In 2010, Hickory Hills police said Mohammed Shaban, of Hickory Hills, and Akram Alshoweat, of Oak Lawn, yelled anti-gay slurs while punching, kicking and whipping a woman inside a restaurant. Woman Attacked with Pepper Spray During Palos Heights Home Invasion

A home in Palos Heights was burglarized with the residents home.

He rang the doorbell and no one answered, but that didn't stop him. On Wednesday, Oct. 26 at 4:48 p.m. a man wearing a dark hoodie knocked on the door and rang the doorbell of a home on the 12300 block of Pine Place in Palos Heights, police said. In the home was an elderly couple.  The woman heard the knock and looked out of an upstairs window to see the man. Her husband was downstairs in the basement. The man then shouldered his way through the door and entered the home, police said. He met the elderly woman as she was walking down the stairs and sprayed her in the face with pepper spray, police said. A description of the suspect was not provided in the initial incident report that I have. The alert said that police would try to put together a sketch of the suspect on Friday.
