It was Andrew Weishar's number, and they played for him.  The longtime rivalry between Brother Rice and Marist was forgotten for several minutes as the two schools came together to recognize a young man lost too soon.  Andrew Weishar died in October after a three year long battle with colorectal cancer. School Rivalry Behind Stagg Brawl and Student Arrests

Kevin Walsh is accused of pushing a police officer after a basketball game at Stagg High School.

Although "a healthy rivalry" exists between Andrew and Stagg high schools, incidents such as the Dec. 7 brawl in which one student is accused of pushing a police officer aren't representative of the relationship the District 230 schools share, a district spokeswoman said. In these cases, the "poor decisions" of a small group of students take away from the positive things that go on between Stagg and Andrew, said Carla Erdey, spokeswoman for District 230. "The students work together on a lot of projects in their communities," Erdey said. Kevin P. Walsh, 18, is charged with battery to a police officer, resisting arrest and mob action following a Dec. 7 basketball game at Stagg High School in Palos Hills. Two juveniles also face charges …

Boys Basketball: Shepard Nearly Upsets No. 1 Seed Thornton

Thornton 63, Shepard 58. Astros rally, but come up short in Tuesday's semifinal at the Class 4A Lincoln-Way North Regional.

The Hot Read: It appeared as if it was heading toward a blowout. Thornton jumped to a 10-0 lead before Shepard realized what had hit them in Tuesday night's semifinal at the Class 4A Lincoln-Way North Regional. The Wildcat lead was extended to 26-9 at the end of one quarter and it appeared as if Shepard's season was going to end on the negative side of a blowout. But Shepard came to life and never quit, cutting the deficit to just five points late in the ballgame. Still, the Wildcats made enough free throws in the fourth quarter to avoid a colossal upset in a 63-58 win. Patch's MVP: Shepard junior Martece Weatherspoon proved to be an offensive threat on the break as well as on set plays inside and beyond the three-point arc. Weatherspoon …

Extra Points: Shepard's McClinton Put the Moves on Eisenhower

Jamila McClinton used her signature spin move to her advantage in the Astros' 41-32 girls regional basketball victory on Monday night. But she knows it's going to take more than one move to keep Shepard going in the playoffs.

Shepard's Jamila McClinton looked like a ballerina instead of a basketball player. She was spinning around Eisenhower's players all night in the Astros' 41-32 girls basktball regional victory on Monday. But for McClinton, her moves are just part of the way she learned to play ball. "It (the spin move) started when I was a little bit younger because I started off playing against boys," she said. "They were always bigger than me, so I had to figure out some way to get it up there. Spinning was what I would always go to." McClinton, a senior forward, led the Astros with 15 points and seven rebounds. She scored three of the five points Shepard was limited to in the third quarter and came up with a big block under the basket to help keep the …
