Thomas P. Mastro, 24, died from a gunshot wound to the chest Thursday after an argument in the parking lot of a Tinley 7-Eleven. Police have a man in custody, but charges have not been filed.
One man is in custody Thursday afternoon, in connection with a fatal shooting at a 7-Eleven convenience store in Tinley Park, according to reports. The shooting happened between two men who got into an argument around 3:05 p.m., in the parking lot of the convenience store at 16658 S. Oak Park Avenue in Tinley Park, said Village of Tinley Park spokesman Jason Freeman. Thomas P. Mastro, 24, of Tinley Park, died from a gunshot wound to the chest, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. Tinley Park police still have a suspect in custody, but charges have not been filed, police said. A grand opening is scheduled for Nov. 9.
The new 7-Eleven location is open for business in Palos Heights. Convenience store employees are planning a grand opening event for the public on Nov. 9. Coupons and gift card giveaways will be a part of the celebration from noon to 3 p.m. The location will be open 24 hours a day and was approved for a liquor license in August. 7-Eleven is located at 11900 S. Remodeling at a Harlem Avenue building is underway for a new 7-Eleven. During approval of a liquor license for the convenience store, alderman raised concerns about safety.
Another well-known convenience shop is expected to pop up in Palos Heights soon. A new 7-Eleven location near Harlem and College avenues, which is currently under construction, will be open 24 hours a day. Last month, the City Council approved a liquor license for the well-known convenience store. Palos Heights aldermen raised concerns about safety in the store for cashiers who would be working alone at night. "I have no problem with the liquor license but I'm concerned about young girls ... being alone at the wee hours of the morning," said Alderman Jack Clifford.
