Palos Hills Police Blotter: DUIs, Stolen Detergent and iPhone

Palos Hills police reports, Feb. 16 to 19.

SUNDAY, FEB. 19 A woman reported that a large amount of laundry detergent and luggage were taken from a storage locker in the 11100 block of 84th Avenue, police said. There was no sign of damage to the locker and detectives are investigating. Andrew Talbot was charged with theft after a woman reported that he had stolen her iPhone at Durbin's, 10154 S. Robert Road, police said. Security footage confirmed that Talbot took the phone off the bar, police said.   SATURDAY, FEB. 18 Marian Tworek, 46, of Orland Park, was charged with felony driving on a revoked license and obstructing identification. PALOS HEIGHTS Feb. 10: Matthew Mackovak, 31, of the 10500 block of 80th Court in Palos Park was charged with DUI, driving on a suspended license and no insurance. Police said they found Mackovak passed out behind the wheel of his car, in the intersection of Route 83 and Harlem Avenue around 9:45 p.m. He was arrested after refusing field sobriety tests, police said. Feb. 7: Michael Murphy, 56, of the 13100 block of Timber Court in Palos Heights was charged with DUI. Police said Murphy was involved in a car accident in the 13400 block of Ridgeland Avenue around 6:45 p.m. He showed “signs of impairment” and was arresting after failing field sobriety tests, police said. The kitchen faucet in Palos Fire Protection District's Station One never stops dripping. Firefighters have to shut off the water when they are not using it.  The cabinets below the sink are rotting away, covered in a mushy black slime. The pots and pans are old and scorched and the tile ends in an ugly strip. We could fix it all, with just the click of a button.  As I have been mentioning on this site for the past several weeks, the district one of five finalists competing for a $25,000 kitchen makeover from IKEA. Suspicious Car at Bus Stop Reported in Palos Park

Police are investigating a report of a suspicious vehicle.

Palos Park police officers are investigating a report that was made Wednesday evening concerning a suspicious car near a school bus stop. At 8:40 a.m. a 15-year-old boy was waiting at a bus stop at 86th Avenue and Cherokee Road when a large dark gray pickup truck pulled up, police said.  The man driving the truck asked the student if he wanted a ride to school. The boy declined and the school bus began to approach the stop, police said.  The boy thought he saw the main display some type of badge before he drove away without saying anything, police said. Palos Heights Police Blotter: Sheriff's Investigation Leads Heights Police to Gun Arrest

Palos Heights reports, Feb 7-12

SUNDAY, FEB. 12 Mohammad A. Damra, 19, of the 8800 block of 84th Street in Justice was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and theft. Palos Heights police said the charges stem from a Cook County Sheriff’s Department investigation in unincorporated Burbank that led detectives to a theft in the 12500 block of Harold Avenue. Damra was arrested around 3 a.m. Police said a rifle was among the stolen items found in Damra’s possession, but they refused to release any further information.  Nicholas Hullett, 27, of the 9100 block of Orchard Lane in Bridgeview was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said they stopped Hullett’s car at Route 83 and Harlem Avenue around 2:15 a.m., but gave no reason for the stop. Officers reported …

Police Investigating Crowbar Incident After Stagg Basketball Game

A Stagg student was threatened after a recent basketball game at the high school, police say.

On Feb. 9, a male student was leaving a basketball game at Stagg High School when he was confronted by a man with a crowbar.  The man walked up to the student and yelled at him for looking at his girlfriend, police said.  The unidentified man, described as being in his early 20s, then struck the student's car with the crowbar, damaging a door and window, police said.  The man drove off in a black Jeep before police arrived. Detectives are investigating.

Kicked Walls, Battered Cop Result of DUI Arrest

A drunken driving arrest leads passenger to physical altercation with police.

What started as a drunk driving incident resulted in more charges after two people became disruptive at the Palos Heights Police Station. Erald Groballi, 22, of the 7700 block of Joliet Drive in Tinley Park, was stopped for speeding at 4:18 a.m on Feb. 4 in the 12600 block of Harlem Avenue. Once pulled over by officers Groballi demonstrated signs of impairment, police said.  He initially gave a false name and when his actual name was learned it was discovered that he had an active warrant in Cook County, police said. After being brought back to the station, Groballi became combative and physically resisted officers numerous times, police said.
