A balanced attack has served Bloom well as it remains the choice for No. 1 in the weekly Patch Power Rankings. Andrew is poised to make a move at No. 2. And don't forget about Marist, Homewood-Flossmoor or Sandburg.
1. Bloom (21-3): Bloom’s balance was on display in a 59-52 victory over Rich South. Donald Moore scored 22 points. L.J. Johnson had 13 and Johnny Griffin chipped in nine. The Blazing Trojans look to take undisputed possession of the Southland Athletic Conference crown in a 6:30 p.m. game at Crete-Monee tonight. 2. Andrew (20-1): Jubril Adekoya set the T-Bolts’ single-season rebounding record in a 53-43 victory over Sandburg at the Thunderdome. He boosted his total to 230 heading into a 6 p.m. game today at Thornridge. Keep an eye on the status of Andrew’s Glorind Lisha. He was limping on a bum ankle after taking a spill vs. the Eagles. 3. Marist (21-5): Tyler Oden rained down a 3-ball and the RedHawks went on a 20-4 second half run to pull…

Top-ranked Marist had no trouble in the opening round of postseason play. Lincoln-Way East, Homewood-Flossmoor, Marian Catholic and Lincoln-Way North also advanced to regional finals.
1. Marist (29-1): Nothing to it. Marist opened postseason play with a name-that-score kind of victory, rolling past Thornton 80-27. Next up: The RedHawks will face Thornton Fractional North at 7:30 p.m. tonight in the Class 4A Marist Regional final. 2. Lincoln-Way East (24-4): Caitlin McMahon (21 points, 7 rebounds) and Taylor Johnson (16 points, 7 steals) powered the Griffins to a 70-24 regional semifinal victory over Crete-Monee. Next up: Lincoln-Way East faces district rival Lincoln-Way North in the Class 4A Lincoln-Way Central regional final at 7:30 tonight. 3. Homewood-Flossmoor (21-7): Charnelle Reed’s knee injury raises questions of whether the Vikings will get out of the Class 4A Stagg Regional. H-F defeated Thornton Fractional …

“Decisions are made by those who show up.” Our right to vote is the most fundamental right we have as citizens. The right to elect those who will lead us and the right to remove those from office when they forget what they were sent to do should be viewed not only as a right but as a duty for good citizens. Elections are the cornerstone of our freedoms and liberties. In 2012 we will be electing people to serve us at every level of government – state representatives and senators, certain countywide officials, Members of Congress and the President of the United States. Each of these have the potential to affect the most important issues facing each and every citizen this year such as the economy, health care, immigration and gun control, just…

Two south suburban residents had a question for Barack Obama following the State of the Union Address party at Flossmoor Station. Here's the answer from the office of the president of the United States.
Donald Moore and Bloom remain No. 1 in the weekly Patch Power Rankings for boys basketball. Andrew, Marist, Homewood-Flossmoor and Sandburg also are looking to build momentum for postseason play.
1. Bloom (19-3): Donald Moore runs the show. Henry Hicks runs the floor. The two combined for 24 points in the Blazing Trojans’ 64-44 victory over Rich East. And they’ll need to step up again as Bloom looks to settle a score with Rich South on Friday night. Moore has been selected to play in the Chicago United Hoops Classic all-star game on May 5. 2. Andrew (18-1): Jubril Adekoya is one of the area’s premier players. He also is one of the area’s most consistent players. He scored 24 points in the T-Bolts’ 73-46 victory over Bradley-Bourbonnais. Andrew plays host to Lincoln-Way North on Friday night, then braces for a battle with district rival Sandburg on Tuesday, Feb. 14. 3. Marist (20-5): Tyler Oden lifted the RedHawks to the 20-win …
