Pumpkin Patch, Craft Show and More Weekend Fun

Pumpkin patch, Palos 118 5K race, "timeless melodies" and other things to do this weekend in Orland Park and the Palos area.

Josh and Dana Goldschnikl were expecting their baby to arrive on Nov. 16, 2012. The couple was surprised when little Emma Mae was born on July 30, four months premature, and the family is facing over $2 million in medical bills. 

A benefit for Emma Mae will be held at the Alley/Thunderbowl, 18700 S. Old LaGrange Road from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5. Tickets at the door are $30 for adults and $10 for children. Performing live will be Maggie Speaks and the Loop Rockers.

Meet the Artist: Stephanie Nordlin

Stop by the Orland Park Public Library, 14921 S. Ravinia Ave., at 7 p.m. to see the array of craftworks built by Nordlin out of sheet metal, old keys, leather and other found items.

Village of Orland Park's THE GREAT PUMPKIN PARTY (Moved to next week)

Update: Due to predicted severe weather, the Pumpkin Party has been moved to Saturday, Oct. 12.

Celebrate the arrival of fall at the Centennial Park Ice Rink Warming House, 15600 West Ave., starting at 4 p.m. Attendees can wear their Halloween costume for the hayrides, pony rides, pie eating contest, marshmallow roast, pet costume parade and more.

 

District 128 Band Pumpkin Patch

Independence Junior High in Palos Heights, 6610 W. Highland, will have a pumpkin patch and mum sale this Saturday starting at 9 a.m. There will also be fall crafts, face painting, games and concessions. 

 

The Bridge Teen Center's Community Walk 

Try the many innovative types of programming offered by the Orland Park center starting  9 a.m. at the Orland Park Civic Center, 14750 Ravinia Ave. Food from Wooden Paddle Pizza and the Harvest Room will be on hand for participants, and a performance by X-Factor finalist Rachel Crow will close the event. Registration is $25.

Trinity Troll Market

The school will host their annual craft sale on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. The market will feature area artists, crafters and vendors. Door prizes will raffled off and a family fun area will be set up in the gym featuring inflatables, bags, a photo booth, concessions and entertainment for kids and adults. The market will be held at the DeVos Athletics & Recreation, 6601 W. College Drive.

Palos 118 Cardinal Chase 5K

The Palos District 118 PFA will be hosting the first annual 5K/1 Miler Fun Run and Wellness Fair this Sunday at 8:30 a.m. The event is designed for family participation and to encourage active and healthy parents and students. Eagle Scout Project: Clothing Drive to Benefit St. Vincent de Paul 

Orland Park Troop 318 Boy Scout Matt Lusa has chosen St. Vincent de Paul and the many people they help to benefit from his Eagle Scout Service Project. Donations of all clothing including winter items, shoes, and blankets will be accepted at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, 15050 South Wolf Road in Orland Park, 7 a.m. until 12 p.m. Sunday.

 

Little Red Schoolhouse Arts and Crafts Fair

For the 48th year, painters, carvers, photographers and other artists will be out at Little Red Schoolhouse Nature Center, 9800 Willow Springs Road, to sell their work that has been inspired by nature. In addition to the sale there will also be folk singers, art activities, a fall colors walk and refreshments. The fair runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and you can park at Camp Kiwanis and hike to the nature center, or at Pioneer Woods, on 107th Street just east of Willow Springs Road. A shuttle bus will transport visitors to the nature center.

 

Southwest Symphony "Timeless Melodies" Concert

The new season for the orchestra starts with a 4 p.m. concert at Trinity Christian College, 6601 W. College Drive in Palos Heights. Tickets, from $5 to $25, can be purchased in advance at 708-802-0686, and online at www.southwestsymphony.com, and at the door.
