Butterflies Take Flight at Lake Katherine Fest This Sunday

All the details on this weekend's Monarch Butterfly Fest at Lake Katherine in Palos Heights.

The biggest event of the year at Lake Katherine is this weekend on Sunday, Sept. 15 and you don't want to miss it.

The Monarch Butterfly Festival runs from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and admission is $5 per person, with kids under three free.

The annual event draws thousands to the beautiful grounds of Lake Katherine Nature Center and Botanic Gardens, 7402 Lake Katherine Dr., in Palos Heights. The year's event features attractions like the butterfly tent, children's games, animal exhibits, a rock climbing wall, arts and crafts fair, educational displays, live music stage and local food vendors.

If you are looking to get a look at the grounds from a different perspective, canoe and kayak rentals will be available throughout the day. Interested attendees can also build their own scarecrow for a $10 donation.

Funds raised from the fest go to support Lake Katherine and their various programs.

While parking in the nature center's lot and driveway is limited, you can park at Palos Heights City Hall across the street and take a shuttle to the fest grounds.
