Trending: Mom Sues Walgreens Over Son's Vicodin Death

Mom claims pharmacy kept dispensing pills for two years despite doctor's request to stop.

Chicago – Walgreens is being sued for negligence by a mom who claims the pharmacy kept giving her son pills despite a doctor's request to cut him off.

John P. Oles, 29, died of an overdose in August 2012. His doctor had contacted Walgreens on April 20, 2010, to tell them Oles was abusing Vicodin and that pharmacists should not fill any prescriptions he obtained from other doctors, according to the suit.

The suit claims a note was put into his Walgreens computer file, but the pharmacy continued to dispense Vicodin to Oles for two more years until his death. The last prescription for 90 10-mg tablets was filled in July 2012, according to the suit.

The suit was filed in the Cook County courts last week. Walgreens does not comment on pending litigation.
