Stagg Boys Score a Historic First in Water Polo

Chargers claim their first Southwest Suburban Red title with a pair of victories.

Drew Stoffel, Zach Golob and company have set a new standard of excellence in Stagg boys water polo.

For the first time, Stagg has claimed the undisputed Southwest Suburban Red Conference championship. The Chargers clinched at least a share of the title on Tuesday with a win over Lincoln-Way North (18-9), but that wasn't enough.

Stagg faced Andrew on Thursday and outright with another 18-9 victory. Stoffel and Golob led with five goals each in the win over the Phoenix. Golob added six more goals against the T-Bolts. Stoffel scored four goals.

Knights Create Space Atop Suburban Christian Conference

The Chicago Christian baseball team improved to 8-2 in conference play with a 13-3 win over Aurora Christian on Thursday. Trent Overzet picked up the win on the mound for the Knights, going five innings to pick up his seventh victory.  Jon Lemmenes had the big hit. He doubled to left-center, knocking in a pair of runs. The Knights took a 19-4 overall record into weekend play.

Shepard Gets Back On Right Track in Two Sports

Shepard managed to get two baseball games in between rainstorms this week. The Astros notched wins over Reavis and Thornton Fractional North.

Justin Madrigal went 3-for-4, including two doubles, in Shepard's 9-8 win over the Rams. He had a game-tying two-run double in the seventh and finished with three RBIs. C.J. Rupar dropped down a suicide squeeze bunt with one out in the seventh to score Erik Jensen.

Dominic Coglianese drove in three runs in Shepard's 10-4 win over the Meteors. Rupar doubled and tripled and drove in two runs. Stano Lio was the winning pitcher.

* In girls soccer, Shepard blanked Bremen 5-0. The win pushed the Astros' recrod to 4-7.

Trinity Christian Sweeps

Trinity Christian wrapped up conference play in softball on a winning note, sweeping a doubleheader in Milwaukee against Cardinal Stritch. The Trolls won Game 1 3-0 and Game 2 7-0. They wrapped up the conference portion of the season at 6-12. The Trolls finished the season at Wheaton College and lost both games of the doubleheader, falling on a walk-off hit 9-8 in Game 1, and dropping Game 2 8-3. The Trolls finished 11-24 overall.

* In baseball action, Trinity Christian split a Saturday doubleheader at Olivet Nazarene in Bourbonnais. The Trolls avenged a 12-4 loss with a 3-0 shutout win. Rick Tilquiest was the winning pitcher. The Trolls went into the weekend with a record of 16-25 overall and 10-15 in conference play.

Moraine Valley Drops Pair

The Moraine Valley baseball team came up on the short end of a baseball doubleheader sweep Monday against Waubonsee Community College. In the first game, it was all Waubonsee (14-2). The second game was called after six inning because of rain. Waubonsee won 6-3.
