Palos Hills Bobsledder Just Misses Olympic Team

The former volleyball star just missed a spot on the U.S. Olympic team.

It came down to the wire for Stagg grad and Palos Hills resident Katie Eberling who narrowly missed the final roster of the U.S. Bobseld team.

The standout volleyball player switched her focus to the icy bobsled courses a few years ago and quickly rose up the ranks of Team USA. She is described by the Chicago Tribune as "currently the team’s most decorated brakeman."

She won silver at last year's world championships in the two-woman event and added several medals to her resume this season.

In her place will be Lolo Jones, the well-known former track star and media fixture who moved to the bobsled in an effort to continue her Olympic career. She will now have competed in both summer and winter Olympic games.

The Palos area will still be represented in Sochi. Palos Heights native Kendall Coyne will be a member of the U.S.A. women's hockey team.
