Marist Tops Plainfield South In First Round Playoff Action

The Redhawks will move on to the second round of the IHSA Class 8A playoffs.

The rain was falling almost as fast as the Redhawks were throwing up points.

The Marist Redhawks came out on top against the Plainfield South Cougars 64-28 in the Class 8A first-round playoff matchup.

A quick glance at each team's records would lead you to believe they were closely matched. Marist came in with a 7-3 record and Plainfield was 6-4. They were the eighth and ninth seeds in their half of the playoff bracket.

It was Marist's explosive offense that proved too much for the Cougars as the dynamic trio of quarterback Jack Donegan, wide receiver Nic Weishar and running back Peter Andreotti drove play after play toward scores.

Andreotti ended the night with 23 carries for 150 yards. Jawill Aldridge also brought some heat to the chilly night with three touchdowns and 145 yards.

Joshua Harris was the bright spot for Plainfield South. He ended the night with 182 yards and two touchdowns.

The Redhawks will face the winner of Saturday's matchup between Bloom Township and top-ranked Bolingbrook.
