Local Olympian Kendall Coyne, Team USA Grab Silver in Overtime

The Sandburg grad and Palos Heights native is now a silver medalist, after Team USA women's hockey fell to Team Canada in a heartbreaking overtime loss.

Palos Heights native—and NBC-touted "NHL player in a woman's body" Kendall Coyne—has won a silver medal, after a heartbreaking overtime loss to Team Canada in the 2014 Sochi Olympics.

Team USA Woman's Hockey battled, but was overcome by Canada 3-2 in the first overtime since women's hockey became an Olympic sport. Not since the 1998 Nagano Olympics have the Americans beaten Canada in the Olympics, losing in the championship game in 2002 and '10 and again in the preliminary round of the Sochi Games on Wednesday. That record now stands until the next Winter Games.

The familiar foes faced off for the gold for the fourth time since the sport was added to the Games. Canada and the United States faced off seven times preceding the Olympics, with the Americans going 4-3.
