Girls Basketball: Stagg Closes on a High Note
Stagg 47, Bradley-Bourbonnais 43. Fifteen steals help Chargers overcome slow start and celebrate Senior Night in fitting fashion.
The Hot Read: Stagg overturned an early 9-0 deficit with 10 first-half steals and aggressive defense to take a 26-22 lead by halftime. Solid offense by the Chargers and sloppy mistakes by the Boilermakers helped Stagg stave off a late rally with a regular season-ending 47-43 victory on Thursday night. It was an especially good win considering it was Senior Night for the Chargers.
Patch’s MVP: Guard Maggie Yandel jump-started the Charger defense after coming in midway through the first quarter. She led the way with five first-half steals and seven first-half points. Yandel finished with a team-high 12 points, seven rebounds and five steals.
Key Stats: The Chargers were able to close the deal thanks to their free throw shooting. They went 9-for-11 in the fourth quarter, a dramatic turnaround. They were 2-for-8 in the first three quarters.
