Gimme 5: Coffman Controls Hot Corner for Knights

Chicago Christian senior third baseman makes his presence known with his bat and his glove.

For Chicago Christian's Luke Coffman, it was a typical day at the office.

He reached base safely four times in Friday's baseball game against Beecher as the Knights went on to .  He also was on the receiving end of a strong throw from center that prevented a Beecher hitter from ending up with a triple.

At the plate, Coffman walked twice, singled, doubled and drove in two runs. He also scored a run. His two-run double is what gave the Knights the 10-run lead in the fifth inning and put an end to the ballgame.

Coffman has been an instrmental part in Chicago Christian's bid for an historic season. The Knights are closing in on a single-season record win total.

The Beverly native plays on a club team in Schaumburg during the summer months. He plans to study criminal justice at Prairie State. He also will continue his baseball career in college.
