Gimme 5: Chicago Christian's Deckinga Following His Dream

Knight baseball standout will trade his bat for a club and play golf in college. He plans to pursue a career in a sports-related field.

Brian Deckinga played an instrumental role during Chicago Christian's drive to a school-record 30-win baseball season and a berth in the Class 2A sectional semifinals.

He split his time between left field and third base. He singled in his last game as a Knight, but it's not baseball that is going to help him through college.

Deckinga, a senior, won't be going far from home, nor far from Chicago Christian. In fact, he'll be just down the street at Trinity Christian College. He'll be playing golf for the Trolls next year.

He enjoys playing golf at Green Garden, where his personal-best score is 88 on the par-72 course.

Deckinga spent time on the basketball and football teams while at Chicago Christian, too. He plans to pursue a degree in sports management and work for a sports team or be an athletic director.
