Catching Up With Some Old Friends

Palos natives from several sports have found their way to the next level or gone into coaching.

Earlier this week,. She was a soccer standout for the Chargers and now works at her alma mater. She also plans to attend medical school.

Some other Stagg alumni are playing at the next level in their sports. The list includes T. J. McFarland, Justin Ringo and Andy Leonard.

Ringo has come off the bench in spots for the Stanford baseball team in 2011. He and the Cardinal were 32-30 overall heading into NCAA regional play against Kansas State. Ringo was hitting .125. He slugged one home run in 13 games. And, on defense, he was the lone member of the team without a fielding error.

McFarland was a fourth-round draft pick of the Cleveland Indians in 2007. So far, in his second season pitching at AA Akron of the Eastern League, he is off to a slow start at 1-4 with an ERA of 5.01.

Leonard, a senior infielder for UIC, doubled home the winning run for the Flames in a very long first-round game of the Horizon League tourney in Dayton, Ohio. The game started on a Friday ... but the hit came on Saturday. Unfortunately for Leonard, his season and collegiate career came to an end later on that same Saturday as the Flames fell to Youngstown State 12-7 despite a valiant comeback effort.
