EcoSquad a welcome addition to area dry cleaners

We recently discovered a new dry cleaner on 95th in Hickory Hills (near the Jewel at 95th and Roberts Road) that changed the way we think about dry cleaning clothes. EcoSquad doesn't use the traditional petroleum-based solvents that most dry cleaners use. You might not know what those are, but you know the "dry cleaning" smell clothes have after petroleum-based solvents are used.

EcoSquad uses the GreenEarth process, which cleans with a pure, liquid silicone. While it sounds like just another chemical, silicone is actually just liquid sand. When the liquid silicone has done its job, it is easily disposed of where it returns to its natural elements -- sand, water and carbon dioxide.

In contrast, petroleum-based solvents are classified as a toxic Air Contaminant and is highly regulated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Some dry cleaners use hydrocarbon, which is classified by the EPA as a Volatile Organic Compound. Hydrocarbon is a known contributor to smog formation.

We tested the service with a couple of garments. We were pleased with the cleaning and friendly-staff at EcoSquad. The cost was about the same as our old dry cleaners. Since we can now get our clothes clean without exposing ourselves to harmful chemicals, you can bet we'll be back to EcoSquad.
