Palos Heights Does the Fourth of July Right

There's something small town and patriotic about the way Palos Heights runs its Independence Day celebrations. The celebration begins on July 3 at 4:00 p.m. with activities ranging from a petting zoo to touch-a-truck to a climbing wall to a bean bag tournament. Some are free; others require tickets. There is also live musical entertainment from the Jake & Elwood Bluze Review. Fireworks take place at dusk from Lak Katherine.This year the parade steps off at Noon on July 4. This is a charming parade filled with antique cars, walking groups and floats. It's not long. It's not fancy. It's just very enjoyable and neighborly. We try to get there a bit early to find a place in the shade and always bring chairs.
