Joffrey Ballet Holds Open Auditions on Sept 16 for Kids to Perform in Nutcracker

Know an aspiring dancer? The Joffrey Ballet is holding open auditions on Sept 16 for this season's Nutcracker.

This press release just came into my email. Since it's long and detailed, I'm going to copy it here so I don't mess up the information. We have so many great dance programs in the area. Someone you know might want to audition.

Chicago – The Joffrey Ballet will be holding auditions for The Nutcracker Children's Cast at the Joffrey Tower, 10 E. Randolph Street, Sunday, September 16.

This annual audition is for all children interested in auditioning for Robert Joffrey’s The Nutcracker, from any studio or school, whether or not they have participated in The Joffrey’s Nutcracker in the past.  The Joffrey seeks dancers between 4’ and 5’ tall and generally 9-14 years old.  All dancers need to bring a headshot and audition form* with them at on the day of the audition and will be asked to stay until 3:00 pm.  Female students should wear a black leotard, pink tights and pink shoes.  Male students should wear a white t-shirt, black tights and black shoes.

Dancers should attend the audition based on age and height requirements as follows:
Age:  9-11
Height:  4’ - 4’5”
Registration:   9:00-10:00am
Audition:  10:00-11:15am

Age:  10-14
Height:  4’5” - 5’
Registration:  10:30-11:30am
Audition:  11:30am-1:30pm

Age:  9-10
Height:  4’5” - 5’
Registration:  1:00-2:00pm
Audition:  2:00-3:00pm

All rehearsals are coordinated by Joffrey Academy Faculty and Joffrey Ballet Masters.

Students who are cast receive a detailed rehearsal schedule once they confirm participation.  The Nutcracker Children’s Cast roles are Party Girls & Boys, Polichinelles (Mother Ginger’s kids), Battle Mice, Soldiers, Mounted Mice, Snow Tree Angels, and Dolls.
