Shepard Football Opens Conference Play on High Note

The Astros defense stymied Argo in a 21-0 South Suburban Red football victory.

After allowing 35 straight points in a 35-19 loss to Hubbard, the  football team's defense made adjustments in practice, clamped down and answered with a 21-0 win over Argo Friday night. The Astros posted the shutout win in Argo's homecoming game, no less.

Cortez Miller and Lorenzo Lashley rushed for touchdowns, and Jimmy McClinton connected with Londell Lee for a passing touchdown to lead the Astros' offense.

Next, Shepard (2-1, 1-0) faces Richards at home on Friday night. Palos Patch will be there to cover the Astros' homecoming festivities.

Knights Win for Former Teammate

The Southtown Star has an excellent feature from Wednesday's volleyball sweep over Aurora Central Catholic in the Suburban Christian Blue. The Knights honored their ex-teammate, Katie Vree. The team has rallied around Vree and is raising money to help her and her family as she battles a virus that has attacked her spinal cord.

Shepard Posts Volleyball Win

The Shepard girls volleyblal team notched a sweep over Hillcrest in South Suburban Red action, rolling to a 25-7, 25-13 win. Top performers for the Astros included Sam Newhall and Sarah Walker. Both had four kills. Katie Skopec chipped in five assists. The Astros improved to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Stagg Defeats Brother Rice

old school came to his new school and it was  that took the upper hand in a boys soccer match. The Chargers defeated Brother Rice 4-2. Healy did not record a goal. Nor did he have an assist against his old mates, but according to the Sun, he made his precense known.

Dino Karas scored two goals for Stagg. Tony Estrada and Conrad Polinski also scored. The Chargers are still undefeated at 6-0-1.

The scoreboard not withstanding, the Shepard girls swim team looked good in last  The Astros were defeated in a dual by Evergreen Park.
