Palos Courts Offers Public Wide Variety of Sporty Fun
The once-private facility stresses its openness to the public.
Looking for a place for your child's next birthday party? How about an all-night basketball or volleyball marathon with your best friends?
Palos Courts, located at 12221 S. Ridgeland Ave., has been a part of the community for over 30 years, and while it has changed various times over the years, the biggest change is that it’s not a private club anymore.
The indoor sports facility offers volleyball, basketball and even baseball practice. According to Kathy Steel, a co-owner of Celtic Force Volleyball Club, Palos Courts hopes to add soccer to its host of activities.

There is one thing, however, that is still private—tennis. The Wimbledon Tennis Club of Palos Heights uses Palos Courts as the site for many of its leagues and tournaments. When Palos Courts opened its doors, there were as many as nine tennis courts in the building. Now, there are just three.
"The building has undergone a series of owners, and people come in all the time about how this place has changed over the years," Steel said. "People say there was a bar, a sauna, and a whirlpool."
