New Coach Brings Fresh Ideas, Attitude to Chicago Christian Football

Chicago Christian Knights

Coach: Jim Bolhuis (first year).

Last year: 2-7 overall, 1-5 in Suburban Christian Conference.

Opener: Aug. 27 at Marengo,  1:15 p.m.

Outlook: Chicago Christian returns an experienced group of seniors, and coach Jim Bolhuis is looking for them to carry the load. But the Knights will be small, both in size and in roster numbers. The result: Almost the entire team will be doubling on offense and defense. “The goal is to finish with a winning record, grow as a team and give these great kids a great experience,” Bolhuis said.

Offense

Backs: Quarterback Calvin Visser returns to start in his senior season. Running backs include senior D.J Gutierrez and junior Wally Findysz. Findysz is expected to be one of the Knights’ top newcomers.

Line: David Ayala and Cory Tanis are the tackles. Khehloong Chin, and Jared Tiesenga are the guards. Zack Kuipers will start at center.

Tight ends/receivers: Seth Hamstra and Kyle Campell will be the tight ends. Corey Bulthuis and John Ozinga are wide receivers.

Placekicker: Jay Carr. He also will double as the Knights' punter.

Defense

Linebackers: D.J. Guttierez, Khehloong Chin, Calvin Visser, Zack Kuipers.

Line: Ryan Bonds, Josh VonBorstel, John Cruz.

Secondary: Wally Findysz, Andy Boss Trevor Stephens, Corey Bulthuis.

Coach Jim Bolhuis said: “We have a great group of seniors who will lead with experience. Our top returners are QB Calvin Visser, RB D.J. Guttierrez, G/LB Khehloong Chin, T David Ayala, and T Corey Tanis. Our top newcomers are RB Wally Findysz, WR John Ozinga, and WR Corey Bulthuis.”
