Moraine Valley Volleyball Looks to Emerge from Shadows

Cyclones defeat two area foes in tri-meet. Shepard girls volleyball team enjoys a hot week of action, too.

Take notice.

The  women's volleyball team might just be the best team you're not watching. The Cyclones defeated both the College of DuPage and Oakton Community College in a NJCAA Region IV tri-meet on Friday.

Moraine Valley showcased an amazing service performance against DuPage with 18 service aces spread out over the three-game sweep (25-19, 25-5, 25-9). The Cyclone charge was led by Kelly Stack’s (Sandburg) smart attacking. She scored 10 kills and had five service aces. Meghan Lyons (Marist) scored five service aces and had four digs.

Oakton proved to be a tougher match, but Moraine Valley prevailed in four sets (19-25, 25-15, 25-15, 25-21). Stack notched her second double-double of the season with 18 kills and 27 digs. Allison Pytko (Stagg) pitched in seven kills and a block.

“This was a good opportunity for us to see Oakton up close before we meet them in our regular conference season match on Oct. 6," Moraine Valley coach Gloria Coughlin said. "They will improve in some areas and we will as well, so it will be another good matchup for these two conference foes."

Shepard Volleyball On a Roll
