Matt O'Neill combines a competitive fire with an even-keel approach that allows his Charger players to relax and have some fun on the ball diamonds, too.

Matt O'Neill has coached baseball at Stagg High School for the last 11 years. He is known for his competitive nature, but gives his players time to relax and have some fun while they play the game.

He knows there is a fine line for a coach or manager to walk in baseball.

O'Neill played collegiate baseball as a pitcher at St. Xavier University. Two of his old teammates are now working with him at Stagg.

Through the years, O'Neill has challenged students in the classroom and on the playing fields. After spending the bulk of his career as a math teacher, he recently shifted gears to being a guidance counselor.

O'Neill is married with two children, ages 4 and 1.
