Stagg, Chippewa Rank Among Top Schools in Cook County

The Palos Heights school was the only south suburban elementary to make the list, compiled by Chicago Magazine. All three high schools in District 230 also were ranked in the Top 20.

Just as a new school year starts, students at Chippewa Elementary School and the District 230 have another reason to be excited.

Those students will attend schools that ranked in the Top 20 of suburban Cook County, according to rankings recently posted by Chicago Magazine.

A combination of hard-working teachers, dedicated parents and students work together to create a successful team at Chippewa, said Assistant Principal Mary Lynn Duffy. She credits that combined effort as the reason why her school made the list.

“The selection of all three of our high schools for this prestigious honor is a testament to the quality of education provided at Sandburg, Stagg and Andrew High Schools,” said D230 Superintendent James Gay in prepared statement. “This is one more point of pride for our students, staff, parents and community.”

Chicago Magazine used graduation rate, PSAE scores, ACT composite scores and per pupil spending to compile the lists for its September article.

The lists distinguished between schools within the City of Chicago and outside of the city in Cook County.
