Athlete of the Week: Stagg's Jimmy Connolly is the Epitome of a Soccer Leader

Chargers' senior midfielder Jimmy Connolly had two assists in a 3-3 draw against Whitney Young and helped Stagg take the Windy City Classic title.

Sometimes, it's simply a matter of connnecting a couple of good passes to help your soccer team out.

That's exactly what Jimmy Connolly did in Stagg's on Thursday. And he didn't start the match because Chargers coach Mike Kealy was resting his regulars for Saturday's Windy City Classic championship match against Argo.

Kealy's move paid dividends. Stagg (5-0-1) defeated Argo 1-0 on a goal by Greg Healy to take the title. Connolly, a senior midfielder, keeps finding ways to chip in even when he's not scoring the goals.

He is one of just a half-dozen returners for the Chargers. And helped get his team on the board after Whitney Young jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the second half. Connolly also powered his team into the lead, albeit breifly, in setting up the Chargers' second goal of the match.

Earlier in the week, he played "spectacular soccer" in the center midfield in Stagg's 3-0 win over Bloom in the Windy City Classic, according to Stagg's athletics page.
