Athlete of the Week: Shepard's McClinton Firing on Both Sides of the Ball

Astros' two-way threat Jimmy McClinton threw for one touchdown, ran for one touchdown and set up another score with a 52-yard interception return in a 27-0 victory over Payton Prep.

In football, smaller jersey numbers often are worn by backs and two-way threats. But it's a tall order for Shepard's No. 3 to take on the duties of starting quarterback and play in the secondary.

Jimmy McClinton was up to the task in on Friday. McClinton ran for one touchdown, passed for another and set up a score when he picked off a pass thrown by his Payton Prep counterpart.

McClinton, a junior, returned his interception 52 yards. He also completed 3-of-6 passes for 74 yards in the Astros 27-0 victory. His all-around performance earned him Patch Athlete of the Week honors for Palos.
