Will Palos Hills Respond to PETA? No Decision Yet on Circus Critique

A spokesperson for PETA says the organization has yet to hear back from the City of Palos Hills regarding a decision on next week's upcoming circus.

The City of Palos Hills has yet to respond to a noon deadline issued by PETA, requesting the city cancel its upcoming circus.

On Wednesday morning, the animal rights and welfare organization sent a letter to Mayor Gerald Bennett and the City Council urging them to drop sponsorship of the planned Aug. 19 and Aug. 20 Carson and Barnes sexual assault victims benefit circus. According to PETA, Carson and Barnes Circus company is widely known to mistreat its animals. A video hosted on their website shows graphic abuse of Carson and Barnes Circus elephants. At the very least, PETA requested Palos Hills refrain from ever giving business to Carson and Barnes Circus again.

As of 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, the village had still not responded to PETA's noon deadline.
