The Rundown: Palos Hills City Council Discusses Daycare, Says Goodbye to Some Trees

On Thursday night the Palos Hills City Council discussed a possible daycare on Roberts Road, which recently gained approval from the City's Plan Commisison.

The Daycare: After confusion a few weeks ago about whether the last Plan Commission had a quorum, the Palos Hills City Council on Thursday reviewed the minutes from the meeting – which did take place.

The main discussion at the last Plan Commission meeting concerned a proposed daycare center to be located at 11020 S. Roberts Road. The address is currently a town home with a real estate office.

Although the Plan Commission unanimously approved the special use permit for a daycare at the location, Ald. Mark Brachman brought the issue up for discussion during the committee meeting.

“I can tell you that the residents on 111th Street aren't happy about this,” said Ald. Mary Ann Schultz. “They think it is going to cause too much congestion.”

Mayor Gerald Bennett also said that it appeared a specific parking lot plan had not been determined. Other aldermen questioned whether there was enough room for the proposed drop-off drive way.

Ald. A.J. Pasek also had concerns about approving a daycare center.

“I like the concept of a taxable business – this isn't one,” Pasek said. “There is no sales tax revenue from this and I think it will cause more problems.”

The City Council will vote on the Plan Commissions' recommendation at next week's meeting.
