The Rundown: Heights Council Passes Zoning Changes Clearing the Way For Several New Businesses

Palos Heights Aldermen clear the way for jazz bistro

The Main Story: The City Council unanimously approved an ordinance that will allow one additional Class A License (liquor license) for Carmen's Jazz Bistro, to be located at 7210 W. College Drive. Mayor Robert Straz expressed excitement about the future establishment describing it as a "unique concept" coming to the city.

Bistro owner Carmen Mitulescu was in the attendance and discussed her plans for the new establishment.

Mitulescu said that Carmen's Jazz Bistro will offer excellent selections of live jazz music. In addition to the jazz, the 80 percent French menu features the unique offerings of Chef Julius Russell.

"It's going to be a cozy, elegant and I hope a place where people have an experience, not just dinner," said Mitulescu.

She said the location the bistro will be moving into is small (seating about 40), but she was confident it would be "made into something special." If business is successful, Mitulescu said there are some expansion options at the location.

Planning and Zoning: The Council unanimously approved three ordinances that pertained to zoning and a special use permit for two drive-thru restaurants at 127th Street and Harlem Avenue. The site is the planned home of a new Jewel. The two out lots will likely be fast food restaurants, although specific tenants have not been announced.

Announcements: Alderman Bob Basso announced that chipper service for brush pick-up ends Oct. 29. Alderman Jean Gnap reminded residents not to sweep leaves into street gutters because the city does not have a leaf vacuum.
