Stops Signs at 122nd and 69th Up for Vote Tuesday Night

The Palos Heights City Council will also decide whether further legal research should be done into allowing video gambling at Tuesday night's council meeting.

Palos Heights aldermen will decide Tuesday night whether stop signs will be added at the site of a serious rollover accident on April 30.

The council will vote on installing two-way stop signs on the north and south corners of 122nd Street and 69th Avenue, as well as other measures related to traffic control in that area including tree trimming in the intersection right-of-way and a traffic study for 122nd between Harlem and Oak Park avenues.

Several residents spoke in favor of the stop signs at a previous committee meeting. Those living nearby have been worried about the intersection’s safety since 2009, according to the Regional News.

Another topic up for a vote Tuesday night involves video gambling, though the vote will not be to authorize the games. The resolution up for vote would direct the city attorney to start researching how a city law allowing video gambling would be applied, should the city decide to move in that direction.

“It won't be to adopt anything tomorrow,” Palos Heights City Administrator Dan Nisavic said Monday. “It's to get studies together to see what such an ordinance would look like.”
