Palos Hills Rundown: Bridgeview Walmart Looking To Expand

Alderman Marotta says a possible Super Walmart at 103rd and Harlem could be good economic news for Palos Hills businesses located in the area.

Bridgeview Walmart: Ald. Joe Marrotta announced that the Bridgeview Chamber of Commerce contacted him and asked that be involved as the Walmart at Harlem Avenue and 103rd Street moves forward with plans to expand into a Super Walmart.

Marrotta said the chamber of commerce reached out to Palos Hills because of the city's jurisdiction over 103rd Street. The store might expand into the surrounding vacant lots, however no plans are final, Marrotta said.

“I think it would be great if it did happen,” he said. “We have the gas station and some restaurants right across the street, I think it would really drive business there.”

Lassak Deli: Aldermen voted in favor of drafting an ordinance increasing H-1 liquor licenses in the city by one, after a request by at last week's meeting. , all aldermen voted in favor of the increase except Ald. Martin Kleefisch (1st Ward). The council will vote again in two weeks to approve, at which time the store can begin its alcohol sales, which it claims will be geared toward crafts brews and specialty wines and liquors.

Finance Committee: After a request from Ald. A.J. Pasek (3rd Ward) to be relieved of his duties as finance chair a few months ago, Mayor Gerald Bennett announced that Ald. Joan Knox (1st Ward) will take over the role effective at the next meeting.

Flooding Wins and Woes: Cathy Bastian of the 10000 block of South 81st Avenue spoke during the public comment portion of the meeting and asked Public Works Commissioner Dave Weakley a variety of questions surrounding pipes sizes and sanitary lift stations in the 81st Avenue corridor.

Bastian , both Palos Hills and the Metropolitan Water  Reclamation District (MWRD) .

Kathy Hanratty addressed the council during public comment and as she followed Bastian and the , prefaced her remarks with the statement, “I am actually not here to complain.”

Hanratty said she wished to thank the village and particularly Weakley for his expeditious response to flooding that she experienced a few weeks back. “All I came up here is thank you for you help,” she said.
