Oliven Resigning from Palos Park Village Board

The Village of Palos Park's Finance Commissioner is calling it quits after less than two years on the board.

Kent Oliven told Patch Tuesday that he has accepted a job as the Finance Director for the City of Park Ridge. Part of his new requirements with the job with conflict with the scheduled times of Palos Park's board meetings.

Oliven's announced his resignation at a recent village board meeting. He thanked the residents for voting him into the position.

"Residents elected me and put their faith in me to help make the village a better place," Oliven said. "It was a short stint but I really hope I lived up to that."

"It's one of the toughest decisions I've ever made," he said.

Oliven called the scheduling issue "unfortunate" and hopes that, one day, the conflict will no longer exist. He plans to find other ways to give back to the community.

"I wish I could serve," Oliven said. "I enjoyed it."

Oliven's resignation is effective at the end of 2012. He was elected to the Palos Park board in April 2011. He had previously served for two years as village's Finance Director.

Commissioners in Palos Park are elected every four years, with the next election set for 2015.
